Christmas is a special time of the year for many people – some enjoy spending time with their families, others love buying presents, and some love eating ridiculously festive and calorie heavy burgers. Honest Burger, one of London’s best independent burger restaurants, will appeal to the latter this December. We headed down to their small Soho joint to celebrate their beautiful Festive Special.
The Joint: Honest Burger, 4a Meard Street, Soho, London, W1F 0EF. You can view their website by clicking here.
The Vibe: Honest Burger, like many in this game, started off serving burgers at festivals and events. In 2011 they moved into a unit in Brixton Village and haven’t looked back since. They’ve now got eight joints across London and have a growing reputation thanks to their simple but effective food. They also have excellent email and social media marketing and it took us roughly three seconds into their Christmas email before we’d made our minds up. We booked out our calendars one Tuesday and kept the lunch trip ‘our secret’ to make it easier to grab a table. It worked a treat too and our party of three scored some seats and jumped right into our order.
The Festive Special is a prime beef burger topped with a slice of deep fried camembert, bacon, cranberry sauce, and crisp rocket. It’s then served with a huge portion of rosemary salted chips (we’re in the UK here afterall). It’s dished up in no time and it’s absolutely glorious. We were sold on the standard bacon and cheese burger on our last visit but the deep fried camembert just adds this huge new level to the taste. It’s crunchy on first bite and then the creamy flavour punches through. It also punches right through the bacon and cranberry a touch but we weren’t complaining. The rosemary salted chips are then some of the best chips served with any London burger too.
The Festive Special is running until January 5th 2015, but Honest are well worth a visit outside of this period too.
The Price: £11.50 for the Festive Special, a few pounds more than their usual burgers but definitely worth that extra.
Honest Burger was visited by Tom in December 2014.
