You only have to turn a few corners in London before you’ll find another Byron Burger. Their unique, fresh, and fun joints now appear in over 30 locations in the capital and a further 14 spread across the rest of the UK. It’s an impressive rise from a simple vision, that being “to keep serving proper hamburgers the way they should be”, and founder Tom should be proud of what the brand stands for today. This May the joint launched their ‘Summer At Byron’ range and we headed down early to check it out.
The Joint: 409 The Strand, London, WC2R ONS. To find your local Byron visit their website.
The Vibe: After first opening back in 2007 the chain, so often a dirty word when it comes to burgers but very much a badge of honour here, has long pushed the curve when it comes to fast food. Whilst each joint offers the same menu the food is served in a different setting and with it’s own personality. Their Strand location, a short walk from the River Thames, is one of the most extravagant burger joints you’ll find worldwide and great fun to visit. Byron run a formula that works and should serve as a reminder to others that quantity in locations shouldn’t always mean a dip in quality.
Whilst locations are important – it’s the food that drives many of us through the doors and Byron work hard at that. They serve juicy burgers, chunky sides, and a huge range of drinks at each joint. Their classic burger is, relatively speaking, a steal at £6.75 but it’s worth pushing the boat out and going for a Byron with cheese, bacon, and a dollop of their homemade sauce.
In addition to their standard menu Byron also run seasonal specials and lucky members of their Byron Burger Club are always the first to taste test these. Vouchers go in moments and we were fortunate enough to snag a seat for their Summer 2015 burger, The Sweet Caroline.
The Sweet Caroline is a 6oz hamburger served with pulled pork, streaky bacon, jalapeño slaw, crispy potatoes, lettuce, red onion, and apple vinegar mayonnaise. It looks great and tastes even better. The crispy potatoes add a huge crunch and the jalapeño slaw is hot but not unbearably so. We added a side of skin on fries and washed it all down with a strawberries & cream milkshake, another item added to their ‘Summer at Byron’ range.
Missed out on a preview seat? Worry not burger fans, the Sweet Caroline has now been rolled out across all locations and your local Byron is waiting for your arrival.

The Price: The Sweet Caroline is available for £10.95 and you’ll pay a few pounds more for sides and a drink.
